Gmail ‘Smart Compose’ Feature is Live – Here’s How to Use It

Google the software and search engine giant unveiled its new Smart Compose feature at its annual developer conference in May. The feature has been launched and is now available for use by Google desktop users worldwide as an ‘experimental feature’.

Gmail Smart Compose is derived from the Smart Reply feature which the company launched previously. It is a predictive system for faster and more efficient typing of messages and mails.

When you use Gmail Smart Compose it automatically completes your half-typed word and also predicts the list of words that you are most likely to type in next.

It is easy to learn how to use Gmail Smart Compose.

Follow these simple steps to activate the Gmail Smart Compose feature on your Gmail account using your desktop.

Step 1 – Ensure that you have the latest, updated version of Gmail installed on your desktop.

Step 2 – Click on the ‘Settings’ icon, at the top-right hand corner of your screen.

Step 3 – Once the panel opens, click on the option to ‘Enable Experimental Access’.

Step 4 – Click on ‘Save Changes’ button at the bottom of the panel.

Once the Smart Compose feature is switched-on for your Gmail account, you will see a prompt the next time you begin to compose a new email.

With the Smart Compose feature enabled you will get to see the predicted words in lighter- colored text in the background. You can choose the word by simply clicking on ‘TAB’ key. This is a smart feature and learns as you write more. So with time, the predicted words become more relevant and accurate as you keep using the Gmail Smart Compose feature.

Currently, the Smart Compose feature is only available for use in English language, and is truly in its experimental phase.
